Ok, so I do not watch Desperate Housewives. I like one of the actresses (Felicity Huffman), but the show has never appealled to me. However, I watched it tonight during a slow night shift, as one of my co-workers follows it.
It was a good one for me to catch, as it had a direct reference to one of the reasons I like Ms. Huffman. She was a character on the late, lamented Sports Night. In one episode of said show, we were informed that, after a few drinks, she was likely to play Boogie Shoes by KC and the Sunshine Band and dance on tabletops. Well, on Desperate Housewives...she did just that. She had a few drinks and danced on a tabletop to Boogie Shoes.
Since it's not a well-known song (hell, it's not even one of the more well-known KC and the Sunshine Band songs), I can only see the choice as a direct shout-out to Sports Night. While I'm still not particularly interested in Desperate Housewives, it warms my heart that they have enough of a sense of humor (and memory of Ms. Huffman's past work) to make the reference. Bravo.
Oh, and a confession - because of Sports Night, I have Boogie Shoes on my iPod.
